Two senior newspaper editors, accused of plotting to kill Hasina Wajid son, have been sentenced to 7 years in prison

A court in Bangladesh has sentenced two former senior newspaper editors to seven years in prison for conspiring to kill Prime Minister Hasina Wajid's son. 

According to the Bangladesh prosecutor, 88-year-old Shafiqur Rehman and 70-year-old Mehmoodur Rehman were sentenced to 7 years in prison in their absence by a court in Dhaka. 

According to the prosecutor, 3 other people were sentenced to 7 years in prison together with the two former editors. 

Shafiqur Rehman was arrested in 2016 and Mehmoodur Rehman in 2003 for plotting to kill Prime Minister Hasina Wajid's son. Both have since been released on bail for medical treatment abroad. Both did not return home. 

According to reports, the remaining three accused are on the run since the charges were filed.
