The death toll rises to 81 as rains and landslides wreak havoc in India

After heavy rainfall in the state of Punjab, there is a flood situation in many districts.


In the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the death toll rose to 81 due to heavy rain and landslides. 

According to Indian media, the death toll has risen to 71 in the state of Himachal Pradesh alone in the last few days and 13 people are still missing for whom rescue operations are underway. 

According to the Himachal Pradesh Emergency Operations Center, 214 people have been killed and 38 are missing so far in various incidents of devastating rains and landslides in the monsoon season that began on June 24. 

According to reports, educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh will remain closed till August 19 due to bad weather, while in the state of Punjab, there is a flood situation in several districts of Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar after heavy rains. 

Indian media reports that after heavy rain, the water level in the Beas and Sutlej rivers is high, causing people to be evacuated from low-lying areas. 

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department today predicted heavy rainfall in the eastern and central regions of the country and said there is a possibility of rainfall in other parts of India in the next 4 to 5 days.
