In the African country of Niger, the military overthrew the government of President Mohammed Bazoum in a coup. 

According to the British broadcasting organization BBC, Niger's army came on the national television channel and announced the overthrow of the government. 

Colonel Major Emadou Abdramane of the Niger Army together with 9 other soldiers went on TV and announced that we have decided to abolish this government, all institutions of the country have been suspended. 

He said that the country's constitution has been dissolved, all institutions have been suspended and a curfew has been imposed, closing the country's borders. 

Niger's president, Mohammed Bazoum, has reportedly been detained by presidential guards since Wednesday morning. 

According to reports, it was alleged that President Bazoom wanted to remove the Commander of the Presidential Guard, General Omar. 

The president's office declared the dictators' move a coup against the state.
